Elastomeric Bearings are flexible support points used in the construction of viaducts and bridges. Elastomeric bearings may be either plain (consisting of elastomer only) or laminated (consisting of alternate individual layers of elastomer and internal laminates)

This custom-moulded product is manufactured with 100% rubber for plain elastomeric bearing pads or made up of alternating rubber layers and steel plates for laminated elastomeric bearing pads.

The addition of an external Teflon layer, together with a polished stainless steel plate, converts this product to a sliding bearing

• Allows a smooth and uniform transfer of load from the beam to the substrate
• Allows beam rotation at the bearing due to deflection of the beam under load
• Allows lateral and longitudinal movement of the beam caused by thermal forces
• Unlike other elastomers, neoprene rubber undergoes no marked stiffening at low temperatures when the thermal contraction of the bridge deck is at the maximum
• No movable parts
• Easier to install when compared to other types of bearings with no maintenance required
